Frequently Asked Questions for Copper Sinks

How are the Hand Hammered Copper Sinks constructed?

Each sink is individually made by hand, by a skilled copper artisan. Sinks are made from one piece, 48-ounce copper. They are formed into a bowl and then put over a form that contains the rough details of the design. Once the rough details are hammered into the bowl, the bowl is then removed from the form and the finer details of the design are painstakingly hammered into the sink. This process can take several days to complete. If the sink has one of our antique finishes applied, it is done at this point using heat and chemicals to alter the color of the copper. Finally, the sink is buffed and packaged for shipment.

Are drain assemblies available?

Yes, we currently stock brass and copper units in six different finishes that complement our sinks beautifully. Other finishes can be special ordered. The hole will accommodate any standard bath lavatory drain assembly. If you purchase a drain assembly elsewhere, be sure it is one meant for a sink with no overflow.

Will the sink stay smooth and shiny?

Yes and no... Our natural finish copper sinks thrive on neglect; these sinks are designed to look old, (and will) from the minerals in tap water in a few months time. If you are after a look that will complement your antique farmhouse kitchen, Victorian restoration or if you just like the look of old copper, then you have found your sink! Since copper is soft, they may eventually get dents and dings with normal use. If you're after a smooth and shiny copper look and want it to stay that way then a periodic cleaning with a copper cleaner listed below is all that's necessary.

How do you clean the sink?

The sink can be cleaned with any readily available copper and brass cleaner that we include free with every purchase of a new sink. Brasso and Wrights Copper Cream are two excellent cleaners. Additional containers are also available from The SinkWorks.
